THE STRAIGHT DOPE:
Two days prior to the Aloha concert Elvis performed another concert in Honolulu as a dry run. The camera and audio crews were in place and the band ran trough many of the same songs. Lightyear has released this show with the unimaginative title Elvis: The Alternate Aloha Concert. This show is virtually indistinguishable from Aloha except for its shorter running time. Elvis performs virtually the same way and the camera work is identical. It seems that Lightyear has released this concert on its own disc as yet another way to cash in on Elvis fans' hunger for more material.

PICTURE:
The picture quality is basically the same as the Aloha concert, maybe a little darker.

AUDIO:
The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio is just as good as the audio for the Aloha concert.

EXTRAS:
Other than a slide show there are no extras.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Elvis: The Alternate Aloha Concert should really be of no interest to anyone but the most rabid Elvis fans. All of the songs are available on Aloha From Hawaii and then some. Lightyear really could have released one terrific disc containing The 68 Comeback Special, One Night With You, Aloha From Hawaii, and The Alternate Aloha Concert, but by taking the path they've chosen they show a certain disrespect for their audience that, regardless of the quality of the presentations, I find a bit annoying."
