Wat ooit begon onder dos met het legendarische Norton Commander is tegenwoordig uitgegroeid tot een hele reeks al dan niet gratis producten zoals TotalCommander en FreeCommander. Eén Verkenner-alternatief mag echter zeker niet ontbreken in dat rijtje en dat is XYplorer. Dit programma, een tip van Hubald Alberti, biedt de bekende voordelen van vele concurrenten (zoals het werken met twee vensters tegelijk). XYplorer biedt daarnaast echter heel wat unieke extra’s. Wij waren dan ook meteen om.



XYplorer is an Advanced File System Explorer targeting everybody who is looking for a real alternative to the Windows Explorer. It has the following features: Created Date, Last Accessed Date and Attributes are shown right in the file list. Extended file find supporting NT-only features, and including binary string search. Multiple location search (find files in all selected directories). New in version 16.70 (May 2, 2016):
• What’s on the pizza? A new toolbar button lets you quickly toggle the display of folder sizes.
• View and Edit the Clipboard. A new toolbar button serves as aquick and basic clipboard viewer. Simply hover it to show any text or file items currently in the clipboard. Click it to edit those clipboard contents.
• Paste and Go. Now you can paste a file or folder path directly into the tree or the list and XYplorer will go to it right away.
• Color Filters. Now you can define whether a filter is applied to the Tree, or to the List, or to both, for each filter individually.
• Rename Special. Now it’s also supported in the folder tree.
